People of Shiloh –

One of the powerful pieces of our faith tradition is our history.  One piece of the history that I continually thank God for is the saints who went ahead of us in establishing higher education in our Montana communities.  Rocky Mountain College here in Billings is one of those institutions.  Established as a result of combining Montana Wesleyan College with other early institutions, Rocky Mountain College is a legacy of our Methodists forbearers in the faith.

These early Methodists believed deeply that God’s grace worked through an accessible education to people of all walks of life.  This week I want to invite anyone interested in how we can support Rocky into the future to join me for a church leader breakfast on Wednesday, February 12, at 8am and followed by a history presentation at 9:30.  The breakfast is located in the “Great Hall” of Prescott Hall.  Please RSVP to the church office or my email by Sunday, February 9 if you plan to attend.

Finally, I want to encourage you to all attend our Valentine’s Day Intergenerational Dance and Fun on Friday, February 14, from 5-8pm.  This is for all ages, all who are a part of our church.  Come have fun, enjoy one another and make a memory with your church, your friends or your family.

Join us as we see how God will use these two events to deepen our connection to our community and each other.

Enthusiastic Peace,
Pastor Tyler

FEBRUARY WORSHIP – true. Reading Scripture in the Age of Fake News is the February 2020 Sermon Series.  Join us in studying the Bible, and an overview of the scriptures and what the book means for us as Christians.  With all the fast ways to transmit information in the 21st century, it is easy to transmit good information as well as bad information.  Through sermons in February we will explore how we read scriptures to find the truth God asks us to find for our Christian living.

FAITH AND FILM – This month the movie will be  10 Things I Hate About You. This movie is funny and touching and teaches several lessons about building relationships.  The movie will be shown Sunday at 5:30 pm.  Bring a snack and a friend and join us for a evening with a good movie and discussion afterwards.

DEEPER DIVE –BIBLE STUDY “Making Sense of the Bible”- The Bible is a sacred text that we hold in reverence as Methodists, but how do we understand it?  Pastor Tyler invites you to dive deeper into the text, to understand its origins, and where you might gain deeper understanding from it.  We will be using Adam Hamilton’s book Making Sense of the Bible.  Classes are held on Tuesdays and if that doesn’t work keep an eye out late in February for Sunday morning study 6 weeks before Easter. We meet at Mission Ridge Tues at 10:30 am, Feb. 11, 18, 25 and at Shiloh UMC Tues at noon, Feb 11, 25.  Books are $17.00 and you can get one in the office.

AGING WELL – Please mark your calendars for the Aging Well luncheon on Wed, Feb. 12th, at 11:30 am.  Lunch will be providied by Highgate Senior Living-Billings.  The topic will be “Overcoming Social Isolation” presented by Trudi Paulson, Director of Family Services at St. John’s Ministries. As we age, we may develop health problems, lack of mobility, loss or illness of a loved one, fear of falling or getting sick to name just a few. This presentation will discuss how aging might affect our ability to stay connected to others.  Join us as we discuss this important topic.

RELAY FOR LIFE DAFFODIL SALE – The Shiloh Relay for Life team will be selling daffodils for spring. Order bright yellow bunches for yourself or someone you love and bring them a touch of spring.  A bunch of 10 will cost $10.00. We will be taking orders thru February 23rd.  The flowers will be delivered on March 23.  Please contact Pat Montgomery at 655-3507 or Liz Stanhope at 656-0050.  There are order forms in the kitchen and in the office.  Thank you for supporting your Relay for Life Team.

CONTRIBUTION STATEMENTS – Your year-end contribution statements have been mailed.  Shiloh UMC continues to be a generous congregation and we thank you for your support. If you have questions regarding your statement, please call the church at 656-0050 on Mondays.  To locate mail you might receive at the church, like a birthday or anniversary card, look in the slot with the first letter of your last name in the mailboxes by the front door of the church.

VALENTINES DAY DANCE AND MORE!! – Join us for an evening of dancing, bingo and much more on Friday, February 14th, from 5:00pm – 8:00 pm. Everyone is invited to enjoy a night of fun and fellowship and good food.  We will have a taco bar, nachos and dessert.  Cost will be a free-will donation and the funds will go to the Relay for Life Team. We hope to see you all there.

TEXT GIVING – You can contribute to the ministries and missions of Shiloh UMC over your phone.  It’s easy! Text “give” to 406-412-2402.  The first time you do this, the system will reply with a text message containing a link.  Click on the link to open a web page where you will enter an amount (we suggest $1 for your initial donation), your name, home address, email address and your debit/credit card or ACH bank information.  Once you’ve completed this initial step, the system will respond with a text message indicating that you have successfully linked.  After the first time, you will be able to just text the amount you want to give in the following formats: “give $10” to give $10 right now; “give $10 weekly” to set up a weekly donation of $10. You can also use this option to give to special offerings (Student Day, Food Bank, etc.), pay for Bible Study books or pay registration fees for events, etc.  The church will pay standard fees for these transactions.

FREE STORE – The Free Store is still looking for backpacks and luggage of any size!
