Pastor’s Corner – November 4, 2018

Set your clocks back Sunday.
Gifts and Talents Survey
Supporting our church takes the skills and individual support of people of different skill levels, people willing to take little risks to make a difference, and people like you.  We would appreciate if you would take 5 minutes to take this gifts and talents survey. Let us know where God might be nudging you to serve at Shiloh.  Take the survey at  https://www.shilohbillings.church/gifts-and-talents/

In November we will be talking about Grace in worship. Grace is the Christian understanding that God offers love freely to all.  True grace is a challenging concept to understand, especially when we see people hurt others or we feel wronged by others.  God has the power to help us find ways to reconcile with those we have hurt, encourage others to reconcile with us when possible, and room enough to love everyone.

Grace is not possible without a strong prayer life, and complete Christian community, church, does not continue to follow God’s call if we don’t open ourselves to God’s grace in prayer.  We studied prayer in September as a congregation, and I heard someone say just last Sunday that we have a reputation for being grace-filled “prayer warriors.”

In this prayerful spirit, we are working to deepen our work in prayer.  This month, we will begin sending weekly prayer emails.  If you would like to sign up for these emails we ask that you commit to the following:  1) Hold the information as personal information and work to not use it in any form of gossip.  We will work hard to make sure that all information in these emails is public; and, 2) If you receive these emails, you take time each week to offer a prayer for those on the list.  This may happen during your daily prayer or simply by praying when you see the email.

You can sign up for these prayer emails by emailing liz@shilohbillings.churchor calling our Prayer and Visitation Coordinator, Liz Stanhope, in the office (656-0050).

Enthusiastic Peace,

Pastor Tyler

UNITED METHODIST-BETTER TOGETHER THAN APART!– A group of folks from the Billings and Laurel United Methodist churches got together to talk about how we could support each other. The first event approaching was Trunk or Treat.  Both Shiloh and Evangelical UMC are holding these events, Hope UMC will be helping Shiloh’s event and Grace and First UMC’s will be helping Evangelical.  Coming up next, mark your calendars on November 23, all the UMC churches have agreed to help UMC hand out hot chocolate downtown during the parade.   Other outreach opportunities were discussed, so stay tuned for more information on those. We are better together than apart!

TRUNK OR TREATThanks to everyone who helped make our Halloween outreach event a success. The decorated car trunks in the parking lot, the generous donations of candy and the labor contributed each Sunday to put together the prizes for the carnival, the volunteers at the carnival, and the members of the planning committee.  YOU ARE THE GREATEST!!!
