Pastor’s Corner

Each week Pastor Tyler and others in the church will provide a reflection on our church life or an act of discipleship.

Pastor’s Corner, Friday, March 27, 2020

People of Shiloh,

I have been watching friends this week struggle with the consistent changes that the realities of COVID-19 have brought into our lives.  For many of us, the realities of life keep changing.  I know as pastors the second we got online worship figured out, we have to do it in a new way as we are being asked to limit travel to essential travel only.  Worship will still go live 10:30 Sundays, it just will look a little different.

We also had lots of creative ideas that we may have to put off a week or so, for how we can recognize and celebrate Holy Week and Easter.

In all of the changes, I want to share one thing.  You are all children of God.  Each of you has wisdom to offer this world, each of you matters, and wherever the next few weeks take us please don’t hide your light.

Thursday evening on our Shiloh Leadership call, Judy Kastrop shared a prayer that I have seen showing up in faith community circles around the world.  I invite you to join me in praying this prayer each day this next week.  On that same call, I heard incredible cooperation and faith-filled efforts to connect us.  May this prayer deepen us in the Holy Spirit as the next week goes by.

May we who are merely inconvenienced
Remember those whose lives are at stake.
May we who have no risk factors
     Remember those most vulnerable.
May we who have the luxury of working from home
Remember those who must choose between preserving their health or making their rent.

May we who have the flexibility to care for our children when their schools close
Remember those who have no options.

May we who have to cancel our trips
Remember those that have no safe place to go.
May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market
Remember those who have no margin at all.
May we who settle in for a quarantine at home
Remember those who have no home.
As fear grips our country,
     let us choose love.
During this time when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other,
Let us yet find ways to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbors.

Amen.

Enthusiastic Peace,

Pastor Tyler

Pastor’s Corner, Monday, March 23, 2020

People of Shiloh,

I had planned to record you a video message and get you all some more details of how we can be church during the week.  Some of you know I have been fighting a cold for the past week, and I am going to need to take a few days off to recover.  I had hoped to take them last week, but with the transition in life, I was unable to.

Know that I am heartened by the messages that I am seeing from the people in our congregation reaching out to you.  If you haven’t heard from someone at the church by Wednesday, please reach out to the office and let us know your needs and how we can connect with you.  I do see God at work in the ways you all are working together to connect with each other.

Please take some time and research how a Billings Doctor is 3D printing masks now to help protect our frontline workers.  Consider donating to Billings Clinic, using your 3D printer to help, or even donating elastic.  You can also donate to the Billings Clinic Foundation.

Darlene Newstrom has begun to make cloth masks that will be needed until enough of the 3D printed masks are made.  If you want to learn more about those let us know, or contact the office to learn how to reach out to her.

God is with us in all of this.  Enjoy each other, share God’s love, and I continue to be thankful to share in ministry with you.

Enthusiastic Peace,

Pastor Tyler

 Lead Pastor – Tyler Amundson

My two primary responsibilities as a pastor are coaching leaders and creating community to help each of us see God in our everyday lives.  Shiloh is working with me to increase the interactions of people from different opinions and backgrounds.  We actively pray and work alongside God to create a diverse community to live out the love taught to us by Jesus in our daily practice. I hope you will join us as we work towards this vision of a beloved community working to spread God’s love to our community.

My personal passion for ministry is to all ages through preaching, teaching and organizing ways for people to find their connection with our community and God.  I find fulfillment in my work when I hear someone say, “I found God today.”  I encourage people to search for God on a mountaintop, in church, helping someone out, sharing in a small group, or in their own prayer life.

When I am not at work I enjoy playing with my family by growing our garden, going for bike rides or enjoying a great day in Montana.  My own personal interests involve exercise, parenting, biking, and being a computer nerd.
