Pastor’s Corner

Each week Pastor Tyler and others in the church will provide a reflection on our church life or an act of discipleship.

Pastor’s Corner for Sunday, August 4, 2019

Please Join Us – August 8 from 6-7pm

Our District Superintendent Deborah Christine is meeting with us August 8 from 6-7 pm as a congregation to hear from us about what is going well in ministry, discuss the challenges facing the larger UMC and to be present with us as one of the people who prays for us and asks God direction for us as people called Methodists. The District Superintendent oversees and supports churches in their region by helping assign/appoint pastoral leadership.

People of Shiloh,

We run on your faithfulness!!
Thank you so much for being part of the Shiloh United Methodist Church community. In the 22 months I’ve been blessed to be your Pastor, it is remarkable to me how much we have done to help share the gospel with our community.  Additionally, I am thankful for how many of you have supported me and my family. This is truly a special church that knows how to care for one another and cares about our community.

If you find yourself away from us for part of August, please know you can stay connected with us.  The best way is through our Podcasts.  These are audio recordings of the Sunday morning message.  You can listen from your phone, tablet or computer by visiting shilohbilling.church/sermonslisten/.

I believe my most important job is to help people on their faith journey. In August, I’m inviting you to participate in a One Month Challenge a practice of picking up new habits, and leaving behind unhelpful ones.  I invite you to go to shilohbillings.church/one-monthand print the challenge card or get one at church the next two Sundays. Then, put it somewhere you will see it and spend just a bit of time each day on your personal journey with God. It will take commitment to build the habits, but when have we shied away from doing something hard.

Wherever summer has taken or will take you, I hope you will spend some part of it with us.  We’ve planned some exciting events and our quality worship experiences will continue throughout August and please mark your calendar for our Welcome Home Sunday, September 8.  Thank you again for being a part of this church family and for the gifts you’ve already given.  Each and every person adds something important to who we are.

Enthusiastic Peace,
Pastor Tyler
We invite you to watch this video to learn more about what is coming up in worship this week.
The United Methodist Church has been in upheaval over understandings of Human Sexuality.  I invite you as Pastor to watch this video by Lovett H. Weems Jr. who is the director of the Lewis Center for Leadership at Wesley Seminary.  It is the best overview of our current challenges I have seen.

There are also instructions on how to assemble these kits.  Please bring your assembled kits, or just bring the items for kit(s) to the church and we will get them to the UMCOR Depot in Salt Lake City.  Another way to help is packing hygiene kits. Also, if you quilt, we have all the pieces for another Shiloh UMC hand quilt.  If you can help, please contact the office.

 Lead Pastor – Tyler Amundson

My two primary responsibilities as a pastor are coaching leaders and creating community to help each of us see God in our everyday lives.  Shiloh is working with me to increase the interactions of people from different opinions and backgrounds.  We actively pray and work alongside God to create a diverse community to live out the love taught to us by Jesus in our daily practice. I hope you will join us as we work towards this vision of a beloved community working to spread God’s love to our community.

My personal passion for ministry is to all ages through preaching, teaching and organizing ways for people to find their connection with our community and God.  I find fulfillment in my work when I hear someone say, “I found God today.”  I encourage people to search for God on a mountaintop, in church, helping someone out, sharing in a small group, or in their own prayer life.

When I am not at work I enjoy playing with my family by growing our garden, going for bike rides or enjoying a great day in Montana.  My own personal interests involve exercise, parenting, biking, and being a computer nerd.
