People of Shiloh:

Jeremy Begbie, Professor of Theology at Duke Divinity School, talks about the necessary conversation between music and theology — a two-way conversation. The SUMC Choir supports that in worship. Music has the power to engage, unify, and move individuals beyond themselves; its physiological effects on the human body are undeniable. Music is clearly in Creation and in us. I’m excited to return as choir director to help us all connect with God, one another, and God’s many attributes.

I would like to personally invite you to sing with the Shiloh UMC Choir this season. We are an open group of people who enjoy lifting our voices to enhance and guide the worship experience. Our choir members all started without knowing their part and learned by practicing Sunday mornings prior to worship. My desire for you as a choir member is that you have a beautiful learning experience, have fun (yes, we laugh plenty), and learn how to read and understand music more clearly if you don’t already know.

You won’t be required to sit with the choir the entire worship service (sit with family if you prefer), you won’t have to be in worship every single Sunday (we sing three Sundays per month), and you won’t have to make a rehearsal commitment another night each week. Rehearsals for the fall begin September 8. To participate just show up September 8 at 9:15 am and then sing with us in worship. Hit me up if you have any questions, worries, or concerns. My email is dave@davemerkel.com.
Will I see you and have you sing with the rest of us on September 8? I’m hoping so!

Dave Merkel
SUMC Choir Director

You sell your own items and keep the money you make. There are also vendor spots available and a couple of food trucks will accompany us. To register call Brenda at 256-5535 or Jen at 671-5770. FREE STORE FUNDRAISERAt times donations are made to the Free Store that are items the shoppers don’t want or need.  However, these may fall into the category of vintage or collectable.  Those things have been saved and now will be offered at the September 14 garage sale held at SUMC.  All proceeds will be donated to the Free Store.

FREE STORE NEEDS– As this ministry grows so do the needs.  The 33-gallon black bags and the tall garbage bagsthat tie are desperately needed.  Winter is approaching so warm clothing, coats and boots will be in high demand.  Just be sure that they are clean, that the zippers work and that there are no stains.  Your support is so needed and appreciated.

NEEDED:  AGING WELL COORDINATOR– We are still looking for someone to coordinate our Aging Well programs.  Training is available and you will not be on your own, Pastor Tyler and the staff will be here to help you!  Please contact Tyler or the church office if you are interested.

PICTURE DIRECTORY– We will be doing a picture directory of our church family this fall… stay tuned for details.

MISSING BOWLWe had a great big metal bowl under the counter in the kitchen with all the other bowls.  This bowl missing and the other bowls miss him, plus I need it when I am getting the beans ready for the soup mixes.  Award offered for his return.

If you appreciate what Shiloh does, please consider giving to us financially.  You can give online at http://www.shilohbillings.church/give/  Thank you for supporting our work.

 Lead Pastor – Tyler Amundson

My two primary responsibilities as a pastor are coaching leaders and creating community to help each of us see God in our everyday lives.  Shiloh is working with me to increase the interactions of people from different opinions and backgrounds.  We actively pray and work alongside God to create a diverse community to live out the love taught to us by Jesus in our daily practice. I hope you will join us as we work towards this vision of a beloved community working to spread God’s love to our community.

My personal passion for ministry is to all ages through preaching, teaching and organizing ways for people to find their connection with our community and God.  I find fulfillment in my work when I hear someone say, “I found God today.”  I encourage people to search for God on a mountaintop, in church, helping someone out, sharing in a small group, or in their own prayer life.

When I am not at work I enjoy playing with my family by growing our garden, going for bike rides or enjoying a great day in Montana.  My own personal interests involve exercise, parenting, biking, and being a computer nerd.
