Generosity Corner – October 28, 2018

Gifts and Talents Survey
Supporting our church takes the skills and individual support of people of different skill levels, people willing to take little risks to make a difference, and people like you.  We would appreciate if you would take 5 minutes to take this gifts and talents survey. Let us know where God might be nudging you to serve at Shiloh.  Take the survey at  https://www.shilohbillings.church/gifts-and-talents/

Financial Estimate of Giving Cards
We ask that if you give regularly to Shiloh or have been considering giving, that you please take some time to prayerfully commit to our good work by completing a commitment to pledge.  These pledges help us to support you in faithful giving, and help us in planning wise use of our resources.  Cards can be found in the backs of the chairs at Shiloh or you can complete the online form below.  We ask that you return your pledge by October 28th on our final generosity Sunday.  You can place cards in the offering plate, mail them or fill them out online at https://www.shilohbillings.church/give/.

“You don’t think your way into a new kind of living. You live your way into a new kind of thinking.”
― Henry Nouwen

Christians are a people of resurrection.  Shiloh is a place where God dwells.  We are a people who believe God works to transform lives daily, giving people hope in darkness and peace in the chaos.  Right now we as a church are seeking ways to reach new people and to deepen the faith of those already in our midst.  These generosity corners over the past month have been pointing us to where we have named our call as a people of God.

This Sunday in worship we will consecrate those ideas by affirming our willingness to give generously to this work.  During worship we will ask you to place your estimate of giving cards in a basket, as well as any paper copies of the gifts and talents survey, and we will bless and pray that God will use these acts of generosity to share God’s love in our community and world.  We will then send each person in worship home with a “piece of Shiloh.”

Additionally on Wednesday, October 31st, 5-8pm.  I would invite each of us to consider how we feel called to help with the Trunk or Treat and Carnival.  This will be one of our major outreach opportunities to the community for the fall. These opportunities give us a chance to meet people who may be seeking us as a place to grow in God’s love. Presence of our congregation matters so much at these events, so if you can be present in any way, please come join us. Trunks decorated or an hour of volunteer time could connect a new person to Shiloh.

Enthusiastic Peace,
Pastor Tyler

We all have hope that our country will come together in peace and harmony and with the election on November 6th, we felt this would be a good time to come into a peaceful setting and lift up your concerns and hopes to God. So please stop in, have a moment of prayer, and light a candle.

SONGS OF WORSHIP AND PRAISE– Dave Merkel, choir director at SUMC, has recorded an album of Songs of Worship and Praise. You can purchase the downloadable album for $25.00 at WWW.DAVEMERKEL.COM/SWP-FS.  $5.00 from each album purchased will go to The Free Store ministry.

FOOD BANKThe first Sunday of the month is Food Bank Sunday.  There is always a need for food and help but at this time of the year that need seems to grow.  If you are thinking of helping out the Food Bank this month, please think holiday meals.  Items such as canned veggies, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, soups, potatoes, canned pumpkin, etc.  If you would rather make a donation, you can write a check to SUMC with Billings Food Bank in the memo line.

FREE STORE– The arrival of the winter months means increased activity at the Free Store.  Mission Ridge just concluded a drive for seasonal clothing to be donated to the Free Store. Pastor Tyler has encouraged all to rid their home of “stuff” that is needed at the Free Store and no longer needed in your home.  We are currently very short of the tall, white garbage bags that the shoppers use for their items.  Whatever support we receive, from whatever setting, is so appreciated.

 Lead Pastor – Tyler Amundson

My two primary responsibilities as a pastor are coaching leaders and creating community to help each of us see God in our everyday lives.  Shiloh is working with me to increase the interactions of people from different opinions and backgrounds.  We actively pray and work alongside God to create a diverse community to live out the love taught to us by Jesus in our daily practice. I hope you will join us as we work towards this vision of a beloved community working to spread God’s love to our community.

My personal passion for ministry is to all ages through preaching, teaching and organizing ways for people to find their connection with our community and God.  I find fulfillment in my work when I hear someone say, “I found God today.”  I encourage people to search for God on a mountaintop, in church, helping someone out, sharing in a small group, or in their own prayer life.

When I am not at work I enjoy playing with my family by growing our garden, going for bike rides or enjoying a great day in Montana.  My own personal interests involve exercise, parenting, biking, and being a computer nerd.
