Pastor’s Corner

Each week Pastor Tyler and others in the church will provide a reflection on our church life or an act of discipleship.

Pastor’s Corner – June 10, 2018

Pastor’s Corner –
People of Shiloh,
This week Buddy Kastrop(your church represantitive), Pam Dandrea(serving on the Annual Conference Board of Pensions) and me are away at Annual Conference.  This yearly gathering of United Methodists in our region is a time when we set the course for our faith communities, dream together, and pray that God might do good through our ministries.  We worship, offer donations, give in mission work, and do the work of organizing or institution during this time.  This will be my 20thyear of attending Annual Conferences in the regions of our church that I have served in.

I would invite you to each hold Buddy, Pam and I in prayer.  This Annual Conference will carry the added challenge of seeing the potential end of the Yellowstone and Rocky Mountain Annual Conferences and the creation of the new Mountain Sky Conference.  This process of becoming one large conference has been in the works since I started conferences 20 years ago.  People are nervous about what this look like, and I am prayerful that we can build a conference that can resource local churches for ministry in the 21stcentury.

As United Methodists we are uniquely poised to offer ministry grounded in God’s Holy Spirit, the teachings of Christ, and trusting God is with us all.  We are poised because we believe God works with people throughout their lives to help them grow, that we are capable of receiving salvation at any age, and growing God’s purpose for our lives.  We are not unique in this call as Christians, but we are unique in the way we do this by going into places, that many do not, with a message of God’s love.

Thank you for your prayers.

Enthusiastic Shalom,
Pastor Tyler

June 3, 2017 – Pastor’s Corner

Reminder – Worship Schedule this Sunday, June 3rd
8am – Worship at Shiloh UMC
10:30am – Worship at Terry Park, Celebrating 50 years of United Methodist Church

An invitation to worship.
Pastor’s Corner –
People of Shiloh,
Summer in Montana is one of my favorite times, we have such incredible landscapes to see, and places we can visit.  We know this means you may be away from church more, and after our winter we all need to soak up the warmth.  My hope for you this summer is that you find connection with God through nature, friends, family and yourself.  Join us whenever you can, and fully enjoy the times when you cannot be present with us.

When I was in Denver for a meeting I found myself on a light rail platform waiting for a train.  I love taking public transit when I am in cities to watch people, and to have conversations with strangers.  One stranger walked up to me(I had my collar on) and asked if I was a priest.  I explained I was a United Methodist Pastor, and then he launched immediately into sharing some concerns about his life. He was struggling and needed some help. All I could offer was a connection with a friend’s church, and to be humbled by the experience.

There are people curious about safe places, churches, and people who can help them answer life’s tough questions.  I believe deeply that we at Shiloh are being called to the work of reaching new people with faith, and developing our church to help us all deepen our own faith.  From my prayer and study I believe many of these people are the “nones and dones.” These are the people who statistically mark “no religious affiliation” or shrug off religion after bad experiences. Many of these people want a faith where they are safe to ask questions, to explore and to grow in an understanding of God’s love.  They just don’t know where to do that.

As you experience the beautiful Montana summer, I would us to be in prayer.  Pray when you are out walking, or among people about where God might be nudging us to find people who want to hear the gospel message of Jesus.  If you want to join me in a walk and conversation, call the office or email me and we can setup a time to take a “prayer walk.”  I believe if we all take some curious time in prayer this summer, we will discover people who want to join us on this journey.

Enthusiastic Shalom,
Pastor Tyler

MANY THANKS! – The Children and Youth Ministries Committee is charged with the responsibility of providing the means for the population to become disciples for God.  Throughout this past school year many have contributed to this effort by teaching and assisting with Sunday School.  These special people: Buddy and Judy Kastrop, Kent Brewer, Sandi Rogina, Georgia Heffner, Nic Rogina. Crystal Amundson, Linda Stahley, Jen Johnson, Brenda Longin and Peg Parker made this task possible.  Pastor Tyler and Sandi Rogina provided the leadership for our youth group (UMYF).  You are all appreciated!

FREE STORE – A special thank-you is extended to Mission Ridge.  In April, appropriate items that remained after their rummage sale were given to the Free Store (more than a SUV).  This was followed in May with a month-long clothing drive for the Free Store shoppers.

The downsizing of someone’s parent’s home or the emptying of a parent’s residence following a death is such an emotional event.  Recently several in our congregation experienced one or the other of these.  Again, the Free Store was the recipient of many items from these situations.  Thank-you for remembering the needs of so many!

 Lead Pastor – Tyler Amundson

My two primary responsibilities as a pastor are coaching leaders and creating community to help each of us see God in our everyday lives.  Shiloh is working with me to increase the interactions of people from different opinions and backgrounds.  We actively pray and work alongside God to create a diverse community to live out the love taught to us by Jesus in our daily practice. I hope you will join us as we work towards this vision of a beloved community working to spread God’s love to our community.

My personal passion for ministry is to all ages through preaching, teaching and organizing ways for people to find their connection with our community and God.  I find fulfillment in my work when I hear someone say, “I found God today.”  I encourage people to search for God on a mountaintop, in church, helping someone out, sharing in a small group, or in their own prayer life.

When I am not at work I enjoy playing with my family by growing our garden, going for bike rides or enjoying a great day in Montana.  My own personal interests involve exercise, parenting, biking, and being a computer nerd.
