Pastor’s Corner –

Welcome to Shiloh as we end Holy Week and discover Easter Resurrection.

Alright, I am going to be very honest with you all.  This is a strange week-end in the church year.  It is a conglomeration of expectations, excitement, confusion, and joy.  Over the previous week some of us have participated in services struggling with the challenges of Jesus walk toward the cross, and his last moments with his friends.   We will experience the strange awkwardness of hearing the story of Jesus who is put to death in a violent way.

Some of us might miss out on hearing the darkness, and yet we are showing up Easter morning to see the joy of new possibilities.  Excited to hear the story of love’s victory over death.

Others of us are showing up because grandma or grandpa expects us to, mom and dad said we had too, or we really just want to see what the Pastor does to explain what eggs and bunnies have to do with Jesus and Resurrection.

As a Pastor, I hope that any of us can leave this service knowing a few things:

  1. Faith is about living an authentic life of love and forgiveness.
  2. Church is a place where you can be real with who you are, we hope you can feel comfortable sharing pains and joys with us here or in our community when it fits you.
  3. We follow Jesus and God in believing you are loved, just as you are!

If you want learn more about Shiloh or would like to meet with me sometime to ask questions about faith, please contact me.  I am willing to join you for a cider or coffee.  We will also offer Shiloh 101, a coffee with the Pastor next Sunday at 11:30am if you want to drop in.

Enthusiastic Peace,
Pastor Tyler

Worship on Sunday – The God We Can Know
Watch the sermon series video here: https://www.facebook.com/shilohbillings.church/videos/1893513710670765/

In the Gospel of John, Jesus gives us the “I Am” sayings, meaningful metaphors such as “I am the bread of life” and “I am the light of the world,” to reveal his mission and purpose. One by one, the “I Am” sayings of Jesus not only grab our imagination about Jesus’ identity, they also help us to experience God, who spoke the first “I am” to Moses. Join us for this insightful worship and study series as we learn more about the God we can know and as we seek to answer Jesus’ question to us, “Who do you say I am?”

MESSY EASTER Messy Easter will be Monday, April 2nd at 5:15 pm.  We will begin with a bible story, games and activities followed by a light meal.  We end the evening with a closing prayer.  We are done well before 7:00 pm.  Bring some friends to share the fun evening.  It is a great ministry and a lot of fun.

SHILOH PRAYERS – Starting Tuesday, April 3rd we will be holding a prayer group where we will remember all the people that were lifted up in prayer the previous Sunday.  We will meet at 11:30 am every Tuesday in the sanctuary and share prayer together.

HOLY HUMOR SUNDAY April 8 – There is an ancient tradition in the church of celebrating the week after Easter with practical jokes being shared in the community.  The idea is that Easter is the ultimate practical joke played on death, so we should celebrate life with fun.  We invite you to come to worship on Holy Humor Sunday wearing bright colors and be ready for some fun.

BROKEN – In April and May we will begin a journey through a sermon series called Broken. This series will explore broken places in our world and we are going to seek how others have found hope amidst those challenges. We are not just seeking hope that brings ecstatic joy, but the tempered joy of knowing God.  To help make this series something you are part of creating too, we would like to invite you to bring something you own that was broken and you have fixed or repurposed.  We may use this in slides, video or for the altar.
SMALL GROUP PRAYER AND STUDYStarting Tuesday, April 17th, Pastor Tyler will be leading a small group study to accompany the Broken sermon series.  The group will practice prayer, share in conversation, and end with a love feast each time.  It will be offered twice each Tuesday at 12:00 pm and 5:30 pm from April 17 – May 22.  The book we will be using is Everything Happens for a Reason and Other Lies I’ve Loved by Kate Bowler.  If you need a copy of this book, let the office know by April 11th and we will order the books.  This book tackles the topics of faith couched in the question “Why do bad things happen?”  Please contact Pastor Tyler or the office to sign up for a group.

AGING WELL: Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body Thursday, April 5th at 11:30 am we will have our monthly Aging Well program.  This month the topic will be Healthy Living for your Brain and Body.  Join us to learn about research in the areas of diet, nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement, and use hands-on tools to help you incorporate these recommendations in a plan for healthy aging.

Pastor’s Corner – For Sunday March 25, 2018

Reminder – Prayer Vigil today, March 23, 8am to 6pm at Shiloh.

Pastor’s Corner –

People of Shiloh,

This Sunday is Palm Sunday, a celebration of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem.  However, the reason it feels so triumphant for us is we know what happens on Easter morning.  For the disciples, there is an obvious reluctance to have Jesus entering Jerusalem the way he did.  They know Jesus is being sought by the authorities and they’re not quite sure they should trust the moment of Hosanna entry into Jerusalem.

This next Saturday we are trying something new to share our faith and excitement for Easter with our community, we are holding a Community Easter Egg Hunt from 10am-Noon.  There will be a bounce house, games, and even food trucks at this celebration.

When we began to plan this event, I shared with the planning team that this new way was a “ministry experiment.”  I invited us to set an audacious and achievable goal.  The goal was to get 100 children to experience the love and community of our church through the event.  Then I asked, “You may not reach that goal, so what is success to you?”  From the team I have heard named, “1 or 2 new families find a safe place to explore faith at Shiloh,” “our community knows we are a fun and exciting place,” and “we get to meet some of our neighbors.”

Like the disciples, some of us are unsure about trying this new thing, and I know at moments I question the risk.  However, unlike the disciples on Palm Sunday we know what Easter means.  I would invite each of us to consider what success as a faith community means on Easter weekend, and celebrate what God might be doing through us to share faith.

Please invite someone you know in the community to join us for the Easter Egg Hunt, Sunday March 31st from 10am-Noon.  Grandkids, children, friends, neighbors, or anyone you think would enjoy a fun time.

Enthusiastic Peace,
Pastor Tyler

 Lead Pastor – Tyler Amundson

My two primary responsibilities as a pastor are coaching leaders and creating community to help each of us see God in our everyday lives.  Shiloh is working with me to increase the interactions of people from different opinions and backgrounds.  We actively pray and work alongside God to create a diverse community to live out the love taught to us by Jesus in our daily practice. I hope you will join us as we work towards this vision of a beloved community working to spread God’s love to our community.

My personal passion for ministry is to all ages through preaching, teaching and organizing ways for people to find their connection with our community and God.  I find fulfillment in my work when I hear someone say, “I found God today.”  I encourage people to search for God on a mountaintop, in church, helping someone out, sharing in a small group, or in their own prayer life.

When I am not at work I enjoy playing with my family by growing our garden, going for bike rides or enjoying a great day in Montana.  My own personal interests involve exercise, parenting, biking, and being a computer nerd.
