Pastor’s Corner

Each week Pastor Tyler and others in the church will provide a reflection on our church life or an act of discipleship.

December 17, 2017 – Pastor’s Corner

A message from our Pastor –

Before you get to the pastors corner today, I have a challenge for each of you.  Tomorrow in worship please wear your Christmas (aka ugly) sweaters to church, if you have them.

Blessings,

Pastor Tyler

P.S.  I am looking for an individual who would partner with me to continue to expand our ministry of aging well, through programs like the Lunch and Learn, Demystifying Dementia and others.  If you are interested please contact me directly.

Today’s Pastor’s Corner is brought to you by Sally McConnell our Yellowstone Conference Missions Coordinator.  If you have more questions about this work please contact Pastor Tyler or Sally McConnell.

The people of Yellowstone Conference continue to make ministry happen in the East Angola Conference of the United Methodist Church. Gloria Edwards (Bozeman UMC) and Joanna Griffin (Whitefish UMC) visited eight churches and their pastors and church leaders this November as a way of continuing our partnership with them. It’s a way for us to hear their stories, and for them to hear ours. It is through this kind of personal exchange that we strengthen our connections as followers of Jesus.

“Support of a pastor makes the present tolerable and the future worth waiting for.”
– Missionary Ken Koome

A few years ago, Angola’s economy was looking up. Schools, infrastructure, and businesses were being built. But 90% of their economy was based on oil, so when the price of oil plummeted, their economy tanked. And the people most impacted are those in the rural area. The Kwanza, the Angolan money, has lost 30 – 40% of its value.

Our Christian brothers and sisters need your help. What else could you do this Christmas to make such a difference to Christians who are in such need? The salary support of $50 a month that the people of Yellowstone Conference provides to 66 pastors is the ONLY cash income they receive. Is this not what we hope most of all this Christmas: to make a difference that matters to God and to God’s people?

“I love bringing people to the church, to teach people
about the Bible and kindness.”  – Pastor Andriano Joao Tchindongo

Your continued support of pastors is needed. You can give through your church using Advance # 3021453 (Angola pastor support) on the memo line, or give online by going to www.umcmission.org and go to ‘donate’ and use the above Advance #.

May this season of Advent be a blessed one for you,
Sally McConnell, Yellowstone Conference Missions Coordinator

THINGS TO DO AT SHILOHUshers and Prayer Leaders are always needed.  There are clipboards in the Fellowship hall to sign up for these opportunities to volunteer.    Snow season is upon us and volunteers are needed to help clear the snow from the sidewalks. December 10, 2017 – Pastor’s Corner

A message from our Pastor –

Our Advent study continues this Sunday with the story of Joseph.  What I love about this story is that Joseph is faced with a modern dilemma in his life, one that requires more than an “either/or” choice.  He has learned Mary is pregnant and he is looking at dismissing her quietly or whether he should follow the law, which was very harsh and could result in Mary’s death.  Instead, Joseph receives an alternative way from God, learning that by following a path of supporting Mary he, in turn, is supporting God’s vision of the earth to be called closer to God’s kingdom.

In this season, we are all called to look for God in new ways, to live in ways that are God’s plan more than ours.  I encourage you this season to look for those ways God is nudging you to look at your world, the way we do things differently.  And remember Jesus always shows up, all the time, and in ways that are unexpected.  Just like Jesus showed up unexpectedly as a child all those years ago.

As a part of this understanding of seeking new ways to encounter God this season, I would invite you to mark your calendars for December 21, at 7 pm.  I have been meeting with members of the Jewish community and we will host the first Interfaith Solstice Service at Shiloh UMC.  This service will feature music and reflections on “Leaning Toward the Light” by members of our Christian community and their Jewish community.  Each reflection will be rooted in our traditions, and looking toward the reality that from the 21st on there is more light each day until summer.  We will have more details about this service out soon.

Prayers of new wonder for you in this season of preparation.

Enthusiastic Peace, Pastor Tyler

 Lead Pastor – Tyler Amundson

My two primary responsibilities as a pastor are coaching leaders and creating community to help each of us see God in our everyday lives.  Shiloh is working with me to increase the interactions of people from different opinions and backgrounds.  We actively pray and work alongside God to create a diverse community to live out the love taught to us by Jesus in our daily practice. I hope you will join us as we work towards this vision of a beloved community working to spread God’s love to our community.

My personal passion for ministry is to all ages through preaching, teaching and organizing ways for people to find their connection with our community and God.  I find fulfillment in my work when I hear someone say, “I found God today.”  I encourage people to search for God on a mountaintop, in church, helping someone out, sharing in a small group, or in their own prayer life.

When I am not at work I enjoy playing with my family by growing our garden, going for bike rides or enjoying a great day in Montana.  My own personal interests involve exercise, parenting, biking, and being a computer nerd.
