Pastor’s Corner

Each week Pastor Tyler and others in the church will provide a reflection on our church life or an act of discipleship.

December 3, 2017 – Pastor’s Corner

A message from our Pastor –

The pace is quickening, I felt it this week. The calendar is getting full as I was working, at home with family, and while I was planning events with friends. December is a busy month and it is also an important month in our Christian calendar. December 3, marks the first Sunday of Advent and for Christians it is the first day of the church year. The invitation in advent is to seek God’s presence coming into our lives in tiny ways. Just like the tiny baby Jesus was able to arrive in a small little town and bring a message of great love, so we are invited to see where love is breaking into the little areas of our lives. How are little acts of love making big change in our community, lives, and our world?

This December I invite you to remember to take a step outside the business by being present in worship, finding time for prayer, or even just taking a deep breath when you amidst the hustle of the season. In worship, we will be unwrapping Christmas by placing the everyday practices of the season alongside the characters in the Advent story. I think you will be surprised by how our lives parallel many traits of these incredible characters.

I would invite you this season to take part in giving back to our community through an act of service. Maybe that is the giving tree in the entry, or by participating in care through one of our mission causes.

This season look for where love is breaking into our community in small ways. Seek ways to help it grow. Perhaps it will blossom into an act of great love that makes an outstanding difference. As the Muppets put it in their rendition of the Christmas Carol, “Wherever you find love, it feels like Christmas.”

Enthusiastic Peace,
Pastor Tyler

P.S. I am looking for an individual who would partner with me to continue to expand our ministry of aging well, through programs like the Lunch and Learn, Demystifying Dementia and others. If you are interested please contact me directly.

Worship on Sunday – Unwrapping Christmas – “Unpacking Christmas”
Video – https://www.facebook.com/shilohbillings.church/videos/1801906159831521/

This Advent season we will be exploring how we can seek the expectation of Jesus in our everyday Christmas preparation. Each week we will explore a different biblical character in the Advent story alongside an everyday part of this season, for example the first Sunday we will explore unpacking those Christmas boxes alongside the story of Zechariah. Join us as we unwrap Christmas this year and see where God’s love enters the world for you.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW THE YOUNG PEOPLE IN OUR CHURCH?
Our insurance company (and our Safe Sanctuary policy) requires two adults in the room when working with youngsters. Consequently, we need someone to be a helper (we already have the teacher), one Sunday a month, during Sunday school held during 2nd service. If interested, please notify Pastor Tyler or Peg Parker (670-6730) or at pjayco44@gmail.com.

THINGS TO DO AT SHILOH – Ushers and Prayer Leaders are always needed. There are clipboards in the Fellowship hall to sign up for these opportunities to volunteer. Snow season is upon us and volunteers are needed to help clear the snow from the sidewalks. Sunday school teachers and helpers are always needed. Our young people need you as a leader, mentor, and helper. Two people must always be present in the classroom to fulfill the Safe Sanctuary Policy. Please consider this ministry for one month during the year. The cookie cupboard is rather empty. Anyone interested in filling the freezer with goodies of your choice, please do so. Sharing coffee and goodies on Sundays with visitors and church family is so important to our hospitality.

SUNDAY SCHOOL – The Christmas pageant will be on December 24th for all children. Please be at the church at 9:45 am for a costume fitting. There will be no Sunday school on December 31st. Activity packets will be available for the children to do while in church.

November 26, 2017 – Generosity Corner

A message from our Pastor –

This week I invite you to look for and easter egg somewhere on our shilohbillings.church website.  Hint: It is on a page describing different community activities at Shiloh.  When you find the egg, email the location of the egg and your name to PastorTyler@ShilohBillings.Church.  If you are the first person you will receive a gift supporting your practice of generosity from our Finance and Stewardship team.

Congrats to Jennine Budge for winning already!

GENEROSITY CORNER

Love, Peace, Hope, Joy to you.  This is the final Sunday of our “Season of Generosity.”  I first want to say thank you to each and every one of you for taking this journey together.  The journey of finding peace in our finances as we seek to be people of God is always messy, and challenging.  Messy because we all see money a bit differently, and challenging because it is a constant struggle for many of us to understand how we can have enough to make it through each moment of life.

Last Sunday we learned gratitude can actually change our brain, and help us to be more generous people in our hearts and lives each day.  You each wrote down visions for the church and they will be hanging on our gratitude tree this Sunday.  This Sunday I will be inviting our members and friends to turn in their pledge cards for 2018.  These cards are meant to be a spiritual practice, and they are one I use each year.  It reminds me that I am called as a child of God to celebrate God’s generosity.

I invite you to turn these cards in with your whole heart.  If it is something that feels begrudging to you then pray over it for a time and turn it in when your heart is ready.  These pledge cards are for you, more than for the church.  They are for you to find a practice of generosity.  If you forgot your card there are some in the back of the church today and if you prefer you can fill it out online at www. ShilohBIllings.Church/give and go to the bottom of the page.

However, you share your gifts with Shiloh, please let me share my deepest thanks for all you do to make our ministry possible!

Enthusiastic Peace,

Pastor Tyler

In November we are inviting our congregation to engage in a “Season of Generosity.” Our sermon series and congregational study focuses on “Practicing Extravagant Generosity” and is based on a book by Robert Schnase. This season becomes a time for members and friends of Shiloh to seek how to use their resources to do God’s work in the world. We encourage everyone to take time to find spiritual practices that help you to recognize where God has given you blessings in your life and how you might share those blessings.

 Lead Pastor – Tyler Amundson

My two primary responsibilities as a pastor are coaching leaders and creating community to help each of us see God in our everyday lives.  Shiloh is working with me to increase the interactions of people from different opinions and backgrounds.  We actively pray and work alongside God to create a diverse community to live out the love taught to us by Jesus in our daily practice. I hope you will join us as we work towards this vision of a beloved community working to spread God’s love to our community.

My personal passion for ministry is to all ages through preaching, teaching and organizing ways for people to find their connection with our community and God.  I find fulfillment in my work when I hear someone say, “I found God today.”  I encourage people to search for God on a mountaintop, in church, helping someone out, sharing in a small group, or in their own prayer life.

When I am not at work I enjoy playing with my family by growing our garden, going for bike rides or enjoying a great day in Montana.  My own personal interests involve exercise, parenting, biking, and being a computer nerd.
