Pastor’s Corner

Each week Pastor Tyler and others in the church will provide a reflection on our church life or an act of discipleship.

November 5, 2017 – Generosity Corner

A message from our Pastor –

Each week during our season of Generosity you will receive an email message from one of our congregation.  We are asking people to share what helps them find their practice of giving at Shiloh UMC.  We will be hearing from longtime givers, and people who are new to committed giving.  I hope you join me in reading their messages and praying over the inspirations we receive from them.

Also, each week we will be invited to look for and easter egg somewhere on our shilohbillings.church website.  It will move each week and this weeks is already out there.  When you find the egg, email the location of the egg and your name to PastorTyler@ShilohBillings.Church.  If you are the first person you will receive a gift supporting your practice of generosity from our Finance and Stewardship team.  (Egg Picture is on website somewhere).

Join us for this journey of generosity,

Pastor Tyler

GENEROSITY CORNER

Our commitment to giving to the church started long before involvement with Shiloh.
Having been blessed to be raised in Christian families, it was a given that we would be giving.  Buddy’s family had always been regular tithers, while my family gave throughout the year, helped for immediate needs and gave year end to our home church and other churches that needed a helping hand. Signing a pledge card was new to me, but Buddy convinced me that the church needed to have a budget and without an estimate of income, it would be an impossible task to plan for even a year ahead. We decided to give a certain amount that we felt we could handle. Time passed and as we were blessed we added to our gift to our church.
Being charter members, Shiloh is near and dear to our hearts.  We have seen this church through good and lean years.  Each passing year brings its own ups and downs, but Shiloh has life of its own and I have always contended Shiloh has “good bones”.
We would urge everyone to at least committing to a pledge at whatever level you are comfortable with.
Strange as it may seem, the more you give, the more you have to give.  It seems the Lord rewards good stewardship.

Prayers and good thoughts for Shiloh and our minister, Pastor Tyler.

This season becomes a time for members and friends of Shiloh to seek how to use their resources to do God’s work in the world. We encourage everyone to take time to find spiritual practices that help you to recognize where God has given you blessings in your life and how you might share those blessings.

Worship begins at 8:00 am and 10:15 am on Sunday and childcare is provided.

Reminders for the Shiloh Community

Seasonal Offering – Lunch and Learn: Demystifying Dementia

November 8, at noon.  Highgate senior living is going to partner with us to bring a program called Lunch & Learn: Demystifying Dementia to our congregation, a free lunch will be included.  We will be learning about what dementia is like for people, the warning signs, and what care is needed for people facing this illness.

Seasonal Offering – Smart Money Event

Many of you are familiar with Dave Ramsey and his life-changing class, Financial Peace University.  Millions of people have found the freedom that getting out of debt can bring to their lives. Whether it’s credit cards, student loans, or even your mortgage, being free of debt gives you the opportunity to give more of your time and your talents than you ever have before.  Our church wants that type of financial peace for all of you. So we’re planning something special here on the evening of
November 7 at 6pm.

That evening, you’re welcome to join us right here at the church as we host a live stream of one of Dave’s events, Smart Money.  He’s going to be joined by his daughter, Rachel Cruze, and they are going to walk you through the steps you need to take to get a clear vision for your family’s financial future.  The best part? It’s completely free for you to come!  This three-hour event is going to lay out a seven-step proven plan for getting you and your family out of debt, and on track to live and give like you never have before.  So go ahead and mark your calendars and plan to join us on Tuesday, November 7 at 6pm.

Messy Church starts at 5:15 pm on Monday and begins with a light meal, followed with a story, discussion and lots of crafts.

Choir practice starts at 9:00 on Sunday.

“Animate” (Adult Bible Study) will be held at 9:00 am in the Education Wing.  This is an
multi-media class that focuses on seven aspects of faith: God,
Religion, Jesus, Salvation, the Cross, the Bible and the Church.

The Caregivers Support Group meets Tuesday at 1:30 pm.

“God’s Hunger” will continue at 11:30 am on Wednesday, this time of prayer and contemplative reflection is for all people.  We meet for 30 minutes and then people can join us for a brown bag lunch afterwards(except when there is a Lunch and Learn).  If you are looking for a moment of silence and focus on God, join us.

Trunk or Treat was a great success we had about 30 volunteers and somewhere between 75-100 people join us from the community.  Thanks to all who came and joined us!

Come join us as we partner with God!

Practicing Extravagant Generosity

Greetings,

In November we are inviting our congregation to engage in a “Season of Generosity.”  Our sermon series and congregational study focuses on “Practicing Extravagant Generosity” and based on a book by Robert Schnase.  This season becomes a time for members and friends of Shiloh to seek how to use their resources to do God’s work in the world.  We encourage everyone to take time to find spiritual practices that help you to recognize where God has given you blessings in your life and how you might share those blessings.

This year’s focus will invite us to consider where our call for generosity comes from, how we live out generosity in our lives, how God’s dreams embrace generous living, and finally how we as people of God commit to a generous lifestyle in Christ.

Since this is the first season of generosity that Shiloh has experienced with me as the pastor, let me share with you what I hope during this season.  1.  That you find at least one skill that supports you in knowing what abundance is for you, and how you can share that abundance in the world.  2.  That you will find one new way to connect to God as you practice generosity.

During this season, we invite you to participate in the following ways:

  1. Our sermon series will be available in worship each week at 8 and 10:15 Sunday mornings, online at ShilohBillings.Church, and through our app that can be downloaded from our website. We invite you to join with us each week by being present or listening in.

  1. Each week we will publish our “Generosity Corner.” This message will replace the Pastor’s Corner for this season and will be written by members of our congregation.  To signup to receive these by email please go to church/church-updates/

  1. Each week there will be an electronic Easter egg hunt. We know it is the wrong season, but we have to have some fun.  Each week in our weekly email you will be reminded to look for this egg image, if you find it email pastortyler@shilohbillings.church and you will receive a gift if you are the first one.  See the Egg Image at shilohbillings.church/give

  1. We have two special events we would like you to consider attending during this season. Please choose the one that best fits you, or both.  And please invite a friend who doesn’t go to Shiloh.
    1. Lunch and Learn: Demystifying Dementia – November 8, at Noon.  Highgate Senior Living is going to partner with us to bring a program called Lunch & Learn: Demystifying Dementia to our congregation, a free lunch will be included.  We will be learning about what dementia is like for people, the warning signs, and what care is needed for people facing this illness.
    2. Smart Money Event – November 7 at 6pm.

  1. Each week we will have the opportunity to fill out cards to support our practice of generosity. The cards will help us learn where we see generosity in our lives, in the lives of others around us, and who the saints of our church are.  On the last Sunday we will invite members and friends to complete and return the enclosed pledge cards or complete it online.

Thank you with gratitude!

Things are happening around Shiloh and, through us, in many other places. You are part of it and I hope you want to continue your commitment to the exciting ministry that is Shiloh.

Enclosed you will find a commitment card for 2018.  Please take some time to prayerfully consider your commitment to our good work.  We ask that you return your pledge cards by November 26

th

our final generosity Sunday.  You can place these cards in the offering plate, mail them or fill them out online at https://www.shilohbillings.church/give/

You matter greatly to all we do.  I am thankful for your faithfulness!

Enthusiastic Peace,

Pastor Tyler

 Lead Pastor – Tyler Amundson

My two primary responsibilities as a pastor are coaching leaders and creating community to help each of us see God in our everyday lives.  Shiloh is working with me to increase the interactions of people from different opinions and backgrounds.  We actively pray and work alongside God to create a diverse community to live out the love taught to us by Jesus in our daily practice. I hope you will join us as we work towards this vision of a beloved community working to spread God’s love to our community.

My personal passion for ministry is to all ages through preaching, teaching and organizing ways for people to find their connection with our community and God.  I find fulfillment in my work when I hear someone say, “I found God today.”  I encourage people to search for God on a mountaintop, in church, helping someone out, sharing in a small group, or in their own prayer life.

When I am not at work I enjoy playing with my family by growing our garden, going for bike rides or enjoying a great day in Montana.  My own personal interests involve exercise, parenting, biking, and being a computer nerd.
