Pastor’s Corner – August 26, 2018

Don’t forget to bring your school supplies for Meadowlark and Big Sky schools.

This year we asked the Secretaries and Principals of Big Sky and Meadowlark Elementary Schools what supplies they need but do not receive through other means.  Here is the list they gave us. Wal-Mart Gift Cards, Hand Sanitizer (Large), band aids (3/4″ and 1″) (not novelty), and Cortisone cream, Kleenex, glue sticks, healthy snacks (kindergarten), underwear-Boys and girls (sizes 6,7,8), socks (all kid sizes), leggings and sweats (sizes 6,7,8).  If you are interested in purchasing any of these, please place them in bins in the Fellowship Hall on or before August 26th.  Thank you for your support and help.

Education has long been a centerpiece of the United Methodist tradition.  Going back to John and Charles Wesley who received a strong education from their mother Susanna.  Susanna had an incredible education background for a woman in her era.  Susanna knew several languages, knew the Bible well, and passed on this vast knowledge to her children.   In Montana, Methodists have long worked for education, one great example is the founding of the college that is now Rocky Mountain College.  Part of our history is we believe that people can change the world when empowered through a good education and with the support of a Holy Spirit filled community.
In this spirit, it is important for us to continue learning as a congregation on how we can help our community support education.  The best way for us to do this is by learning to be missional and connecting with our schools.
  1. Describing an act of sharing God’s love in the community.
  2. Existing as part of the above act.

Today, during worship we are going to be missional in several ways.

  1. We are going to bless the backpacks of our students heading back to school and supplies we send to the schools.  We want our children to know that we care about their education and that we are supporting them as they learn.
  2. Second, we will take a student offering to support students through scholarships administered by our United Methodist connection.  This shows we support people connecting with knowledge in our global community.
  3. Finally, we will be invited to write letters to educators and staff in our schools.  A form letter can be found at

Gracious God bless our teachers, staff, and students as they return to another year of learning.
Enthusiastic Peace,
Pastor Tyler

 Lead Pastor – Tyler Amundson

My two primary responsibilities as a pastor are coaching leaders and creating community to help each of us see God in our everyday lives.  Shiloh is working with me to increase the interactions of people from different opinions and backgrounds.  We actively pray and work alongside God to create a diverse community to live out the love taught to us by Jesus in our daily practice. I hope you will join us as we work towards this vision of a beloved community working to spread God’s love to our community.
My personal passion for ministry is to all ages through preaching, teaching and organizing ways for people to find their connection with our community and God.  I find fulfillment in my work when I hear someone say, “I found God today.”  I encourage people to search for God on a mountaintop, in church, helping someone out, sharing in a small group, or in their own prayer life.

When I am not at work I enjoy playing with my family by growing our garden, going for bike rides or enjoying a great day in Montana.  My own personal interests involve exercise, parenting, biking, and being a computer nerd.
