Pastor’s Corner

Each week Pastor Tyler and others in the church will provide a reflection on our church life or an act of discipleship.

Pastor’s Corner, Friday, April 10, 2020 – Easter Info

Good Friday service can be found at 7pm on Youtube by clicking the picture above or on Facebook by going to http://www.facebook.com/shilohbillings.church.  Scroll down on Facebook to find the watch party at 7pm.

People of Shiloh –

Today is Good Friday.  A day that was anything but good in the story of Jesus.  Today we remember Jesus’ death, the torture of a man who loved everyone, and we suffer and die in that moment.  It is the day that makes possible Easter, so don’t move too quickly through the pain.  Remember the places of wounding in your own life, remember that God has felt them too.  Trust your God knows the struggles you go through, even now.

Then I hope you will join us Sunday for either Sunrise at 6:30 or 10:30 for our Celebration service.  We will have online worship put together from people and clergy from all 5 of our United Methodist Churches.  Let’s join together in celebrating Easter, much the way early Christians celebrated.  We will celebrate like them from small rooms, communicating in creative ways with fellow believers, and hopeful that love can conquer the scariest parts of our world.

Prayers as you enter this Holy Weekend of our faith.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Tyler

MAKING MASKS – WANT TO HELP?? – We have heard that some of you would be interested in helping during the COVID-19 crisis. Dr. Staci Lee, a physician, and Laura Forcella, a nurse practitioner, both  members of our congregation who work at Billings Clinic, say that many groups have offered to sew fabric masks for BC. We have posted two approved patterns that can help supplement their mask supply for patients and guests. They should be made of a tightly woven cotton and should be layered with two different colors to easily differentiate the outside and inside of the mask.  Donated masks can be dropped off at 360 Office Solutions, just off the Zoo Drive Exit in Billings.  Information is available at the drop-off site about how to receive a donation letter. They are collecting finished masks only and are asking individuals to please use their own supplies. They will accept masks of different patterns that have already been made. They will take care of laundering masks prior to distribution to our patients and guests. Questions can be directed to foundation@billingsclinic.org.  A second cloth mask effort is also underway with the help of employees and the infectious disease team at Billings Clinic. The Kaizen Center has been turned into a sewing room for the purpose of making surgical drape masks and gowns for employees in a controlled environment.

PHONE TREE CALLERS STATUS CALL – If you are a phone tree caller, the status call that was scheduled for each Monday has been canceled. Pastor’s Corner for Monday, April 6, 2020 – Holy Week Info

Learn about our Holy Week at this time and how you can journey with us to Easter over the next week.

People of Shiloh –

We have several ways you can practice your faith this week as we approach Easter Sunday.  I would encourage you to take the opportunity to connect in at least 2 other ways to your faith, beyond Easter Worship.  Read a devotional, do the stations of the cross, join us for Maundy Thursday on Facebook Live, or watch our joint Good Friday service.

And if you are looking for one extra experience of connecting with God and our community, I would invite you to journey outside each night at 8 pm.  If you do you may find yourself surrounded in our Billings neighborhoods by people howling. Howling for healthcare is becoming a nationwide movement of solidarity with those working hard to keep us safe during this time.  As you journey outside consider joining in the howls with your neighbors as spiritual practice this week. A way of letting your neighbor know that you are a child of God and will do ridiculous things to let others know we care about them.

Let’s howl for Jesus’ sake this week so that our community can know we care for them.  Then let’s practice our walk with Christ as we journey with him to the cross.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Tyler

Daily devotions will be posted on Facebook for Holy Week.  Anyone can access these by going to http://www.facebook.com/shilohbillings.church
Stations of the Cross – Posted on Wednesday on Shilohbillings.Church and on Facebook will be a printable stations of the cross. Go to different places online to watch videos or do it all on paper at home.  Pray for different places in our community as you journey with Christ to the cross.

Comfort Food Love Feast – Join Pastor Tyler on Facebook at 5:30pm for a short liturgy of communion and gathering together.  Plan to eat dinner afterwards, knowing that your congregation is all eating after communion too. We hope this recognition of Jesus’ final meal with his disciples reminds you we are all still gathered at the table of God together.

Good Friday: Seven Last Words- Posted at noon with a watch party on Facebook at 7pm.  There will be a service of Jesus’ final hours in music and word.  Members of all 5 Billings churches will offer us a chance to experience Christ’s death and remind us the sorrow of Holy Week and the sense of loss the first disciples felt.

 Lead Pastor – Tyler Amundson

My two primary responsibilities as a pastor are coaching leaders and creating community to help each of us see God in our everyday lives.  Shiloh is working with me to increase the interactions of people from different opinions and backgrounds.  We actively pray and work alongside God to create a diverse community to live out the love taught to us by Jesus in our daily practice. I hope you will join us as we work towards this vision of a beloved community working to spread God’s love to our community.

My personal passion for ministry is to all ages through preaching, teaching and organizing ways for people to find their connection with our community and God.  I find fulfillment in my work when I hear someone say, “I found God today.”  I encourage people to search for God on a mountaintop, in church, helping someone out, sharing in a small group, or in their own prayer life.

When I am not at work I enjoy playing with my family by growing our garden, going for bike rides or enjoying a great day in Montana.  My own personal interests involve exercise, parenting, biking, and being a computer nerd.
