Worship Survey

We want to know how worship is connecting you to God.  Please take a minute to fill out a worship survey for the service you regularly attend:

8:00am – Click Here

10:15am – Click Here

Worship this Sunday is at 8am at Shiloh and 10am at Rose Park.  We hope you can join us.
People of Shiloh,

Last week, this week and next week you will have an opportunity to take a survey on our worship. I am sure you have noticed more surveys since I showed up, it is because your voice matters to our church.  We function best when I can hear God’s calling on your heart for how we can seek God in worship, discipleship, service and mission.  I invite you to complete this survey and turn it in, either on paper or online.  There is one survey for each service.

I also want to take time to share with you why I do sermon series.  I believe that part of our challenge of connecting with people new and long time to our church, is we don’t always give a reason to come back.  Sermon series, and liturgical seasons give people that reason by and large.  If something is happening that you appreciate, you show up.

I use these 5 areas developed by preacher Adam Hamilton to guide our work around the types of series we should offer as Christians in worship, and work to tie them to liturgical seasons:

  1. Evangelism (designed for the unchurched/nominal Christians, “fishing expeditions,” includes an invitation.  Our “Broken” and “Unafraid” series are examples. Done usually in January and April/May after CEOs are here.)
  2. Discipleship (majority of sermons are in this category.  “Road to Shiloh series”)
  3. Equipping and Sending (“inspiring parishioners to do something about their faith.” “Unwrapping Christmas.”)
  4. Pastoral Care (“offering real hope and real help to those who are broken”)
  5. Institutional Development (ensure the health and vitality of the church; i.e. purpose of the church, needs of the church, vision, preparing people for future challenges, and stewardship; preached sparingly.)

If you would like to be a part of helping us set the course for worship, I would invite you to attend our worship planning retreat on Sunday August 26 from 12-3pm.

Enthusiastic Peace,

Pastor Tyler

People of Shiloh,

Two weeks ago I wrote a letter to notify us of a plant to place a zoning exclusion on a lot within 600 feet of our church that would allow a casino to be placed there.  I am pleased to announce that on Tuesday night the zoning commission voted it down unanimously.  This will now continue on with no vote from the zoning commission to the City Council, on August 27, at 5:30pm.

On Tuesday, I was proud to not need to say much.  Members of our congregation showed up to offer their wisdom and guidance to our community.  Members commented on the need for positive development of our community, to stand up for those disproportionally impacted by the negative effects of gambling, and to stand up as a church and say we want something more for our community. Thank you to all who attended.

The work does not end, we need people to attend the City Council meeting on August 27 and this has opened new doors for our ministry.  The city is working on redefining zoning for Billings in the next few years, that may give us the ability to be more proactive about what kind of businesses we want to invite to our community, to encourage less casinos, and there is a West End task force that could benefit from a United Methodist voice.

If you are feeling moved to help Shiloh and United Methodists have a voice in brining positive growth to the growing edge of Billings, I would invite you to talk with me. We can truly be a part of growing with and supporting our community.

Grace and Enthusiastic Peace,

Pastor Tyler

Two weeks ago Thursday night we had 10 youth and 3 adults stay for a lock-in at Shiloh.  We had fun, prayed, learned about Jesus, and had more fun.  We also took time to plan youth group for our upcoming year.  Check out one of our new ways to have fun that our children and youth will be able to use, nine square in the air.

This Sunday we end our series on living Unafraid, exploring how we do that biblically and seeking ways to support one another in the Christian walk of freeing ourselves from fear.

VOLUNTEER FOR SHILOHWe need many volunteers to keep the church running and welcoming.  In the hallway in front of the Fellowship Hall is a round table with clipboards and a calendar on it.  There are 2 clipboards asking for Ushers(1stand 2ndservices).  There is one clipboard asking for Prayer Leaders.  During the summer, the Prayer Leader is only needed for the second service.  There is one clipboard asking for Lawn Mowersand in the winter we ask for folks to shovel snow. The last item is a calendar where people can sign up to bring goodies for the Fellowship Hour.  Passing the clipboards around during the service can be distracting, so we are trying this method.  We need your help!  We ask you to please think and pray about what you can do to help keep our church running smoothly.
