Children don’t forget to bring stuffed animals for our stuffed animal retreat.  Animals will stay at the church for a week, do spiritual practices and send pictures home.  Kiddos can pick up their stuffed animals Sunday October 7 or any day after that.

This Sunday we will wrap up our Prayer Matterssermon series.  It has been an honor to explore prayer with this community, we encourage you to go catch up on the messages in our podcast or read them on our website.  So many thanks are needed for this, including the 16 people who attended the planning and Becky Davis for sharing one of the messages.
In October we are inviting our congregation to participate in our “Season of Generosity.”  Our sermon series and congregational study focus will be on being a “Generous Church.”  The book study will use Defying Gravity: Break Fee of the Culture of More by Tom Berlin. This season becomes a time for members and friends of Shiloh to seek how to use their resources to support God’s work in the world.  We encourage everyone to take time to find spiritual practices that help you to recognize where God has given you blessings in your life and how you might share those blessings.
This year’s focus will invite us to consider what practices with our things hold us down, how we clean out the clutter, tie our lifeline to God, and grow in generous Christian living.  We will do this through a prayer and book study on Tuesdays, hearing from members of our church about their call to generosity, and through cleaning out things and trying something new.
Let me share what I hope for you this season.  1.  That you find at least one skill that supports you in knowing what abundance is for you, and how you can share that abundance in the world.  2.  That you will find one new way to connect to God as you practice generosity.
Enthusiastic Peace,
Pastor Tyler

NEW SUMC COOKBOOK– Shiloh is publishing a new cookbook and we need your help.  The proceeds of this cookbook will go to support the Backpack Meals Program for the Billings Schools.  All recipes in the past three cookbooks from current members will be included in the new cookbook so only new recipes are needed.  Please either send recipes to recipes@shilohbillings.churchor drop them by the church office.  We are very excited about this project – there are already close to 200 recipes included.  We only have a few recipes in the following categories and would like to see more:  Appetizers, Beverages, Candies, and Canning.  We would also like to see recipes for gluten free, barbecue, ethnic recipes, and any others you may think of – the sky’s the limit!
WHO MOWS THE CHURCH LAWN?  The answer is: a dedicated group of SUMC individuals who spent 4-5 hours each week to complete the mowing (approx. 6 acres) and keep the church property looking neat and orderly.  This summer, the church’s riding lawn mower broke down and had to be repaired.  During the 2 1/2 weeks of shutdown, a commercial lawn company was hired to complete the mowing at a cost of $150.00 per week.  The SUMC trustees appreciate and thank the individuals who have donated their time and labor to maintain our lawn this summer.  Also, the cost savings of at least $150.00 per week helped stretch the church budget.  Please help the Trustees extend a special thanks to Jerry Stanhope, Gary McFarland, Kent Thompson, Dave King, Toby Stapleton, George Forton, and Bob Teegardenfor their help and dedication.
