Shiloh E-Pistle for July 30, 2020

People of Shiloh,

In the up and down chaos of our world.  It is important that we, as disciples of Jesus Christ, continue to take time to full embrace the Good News of Christ in our lives.  This fall with COVID-19 and other challenges facing us, along with a presidential election, there will be disagreement in our communities.  I would encourage you in this time to prepare your hearts for what is to come.  In doing this myself I have been reading authors that speak to Christ in our lives.  This week I want to lift to you a quote from modern day monk, Richard Rohr who writes:

“Our full “Christ Option”—and it is indeed a free choice to jump on board—offers us so much that is both good and new—a God who is in total solidarity with all of us at every stage of the journey, and who will get us all to our destination together in love. It is no longer about being correct. It is about being connected. Being in right relationship is much, much better than just trying to be “right.””

 – Rohr, Richard. The Universal Christ (p. 168). The Crown Publishing Group. Kindle Edition.

Right relationship becomes our work now and as we move ahead.  And the God who is in total solidarity with us, invites us to follow a great commandment, “Love God, and love our neighbor as we learn to love ourselves.”  It does not say, “Be right….then love God or neighbor or self.”

Rohr is pointing to the reality that if trust in the full body of Christ being resurrected then we will: 1. Forgive ourselves and others with fervor.  2.  Trust that speaking in a calm still voice the truth of hearts will be enough to transform the world.

How can you work on relationships now with God, neighbor and self, so that whatever is to come you can help make loving decisions for our future as people of God.

Enthusiastic Peace,

Pastor Tyler

What happens when our world falls apart? How do we press onward when our tightly- knit plans unravel into loose threads? What do we become when our identity—or the path we’re on—comes undone? What if all of this is not the end we fear it will be? In our unraveling, sometimes life surprises us with unexpected joy, love, and hope— with a new beginning we couldn’t have imagined.

Sometimes we need God to unravel us, for we long to be changed. This worship series explores 9 stories of unraveled shame, identity, fear, grief, dreams, and expectations. These are stories where God meets us in the spiraling, unraveling our plans—and us—into something new.

We continue to monitor the situation as Montana opens in phases. Because we are committed to the health and safety of all, especially our most vulnerable of God’s children.  In Phase 2 we will be shifting to a model of online and small group worship, intermixed with parking lot worship. Please check back for updates and be sure to join us online for our weekly worship services.
