Shiloh E-Pistle for June 11, 2020

We hope you join us this June as we explore Hope: Living with Confident Expectation.  We will explore how hope is the foundation for faith, not a plan, but where we begin from.

People of Shiloh,

As I begin my prayers each day, I find the world’s pace grating to the soul.  The everyday is still happening amidst the upheaval and turmoil we are feeling.  The challenge of race is in front of us, COVID-19 still stands as a challenge, and our economic challenges are raging.  We as people of God are called to witness to our faith amidst all of these things. Christ’s disciples were given this instruction in Acts 1 as a final call, before the risen Christ stepped beyond the veil.  This is what we must each do in this time, we must be witnesses to the hope of God’s kingdom being revealed.

Our perceptions of what this means will be changing too.  For years our picture of the church was “if we build it, they will come.”  Now we must shift to a different protocol of “God has asked us to witness to our faith.”  We must move from being a place of perfect program to a place of imperfect community.  A community of believers challenging, learning and sharing with each other, so that we can share that faith in the world.

One change that has happened is that of how we care for those in our community.  It used to be the case that hospitals and Billings was small enough that if you got hurt or were in the hospital we would hear about it and a pastor or church member could respond.  This is often not true anymore.  This week I got a letter from Billings Clinic that in the season of COVID-19 this is definitely not true.  In order for us to be in touch with you, you must let the hospital and us know you want to hear from us.  As your pastor I cannot go into the hospital except in extremely special circumstances.  We will be able to chat via phone or electronic device, but you have to ask for that connection.  We want to be your community, so in this season please let us know if you need care.

Keep in prayer, stay in faith, and witness to hope,

Pastor Tyler

Please be sure to put the name of who the luminaria is for on the memo line of your check.
