Pastor’s Corner for August 20

People of Shiloh,

I write to share the news that our worship team, with the permission of Church Council, has made the decision that traditional in person worship will be officially cancelled for the remainder of 2020.  The group asked me to convey our sadness at this decision.  Our conclusion was not made lightly and was done in prayer for what is best for our congregation during this pandemic.  We hope that this decision will allow us to focus our resources on other pandemic safe forms of worship and connection.

We will continue our plan to have our outdoor worship at 10:30am on August 23, Education Sunday and Blessing of the Backpacks, and September 6, Blessing of the Pets.  Small group worship will continue on, and we will be continuing to work hard to provide a quality online experience.

Please stay tuned to the Pastor’s corner for news about in-person opportunities and changes to our online engagement coming over the next several weeks.  We are hopeful and excited that these other opportunities allow you to connect with God and each other during these challenging times.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Tyler

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Common English Bible

A season for everything

3 There’s a season for everything

and a time for every matter under the heavens:

2     a time for giving birth and a time for dying,

a time for planting and a time for uprooting what was planted,

3     a time for killing and a time for healing,

a time for tearing down and a time for building up,

4     a time for crying and a time for laughing,

a time for mourning and a time for dancing,

5     a time for throwing stones and a time for gathering stones,

a time for embracing and a time for avoiding embraces,

6     a time for searching and a time for losing,

a time for keeping and a time for throwing away,

7     a time for tearing and a time for repairing,

a time for keeping silent and a time for speaking,

8     a time for loving and a time for hating,

a time for war and a time for peace.

Free Store News – Although the Free Store is closed due to the pandemic, a partnership has been established with Broadwater School (located across the street from the Free Store). The principal, Mr. Huck, will share with his parents/guardians the information regarding how to make an appointment with the Free Store to shop for school clothes. The Free Store facilities are too small to establish social distancing so during the appointment time only one family will be shopping. We anticipate this ministry will be able to meet the needs of many, despite the closure. Thanks to the generosity of so many of you, we have a good supply of needed items!!

Adult Bible Study for Women -” What the Women Saw” -Tuesday at 6;30 pm.  If you are interested in joining this group, call the office for details.

What happens when our world falls apart? How do we press onward when our tightly- knit plans unravel into loose threads? What do we become when our identity—or the path we’re on—comes undone? What if all of this is not the end we fear it will be? In our unraveling, sometimes life surprises us with unexpected joy, love, and hope— with a new beginning we couldn’t have imagined.

Sometimes we need God to unravel us, for we long to be changed. This worship series explores 9 stories of unraveled shame, identity, fear, grief, dreams, and expectations. These are stories where God meets us in the spiraling, unraveling our plans—and us—into something new.

COVID-19
We continue to monitor the situation as Montana opens in phases. Because we are committed to the health and safety of all, especially our most vulnerable of God’s children.  In Fall of 2020 we will be shifting to a model of community worship and online hybrid worship.  Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.

Our Covid-19 protocol and building use guidelines can be found here: www.shilohbillings.church/covid-19/

Updates on worship be posted to www.shilohbillings.church/summer-worship-2020/
